BPS: Scream!

I scream . . .

You scream . . .

We all scream for . . .

Every summer we try to get out and do a camping trip for our anniversary.  Last year, we picked a great location: on a hill, overlooking a Little League baseball diamond, near a park, surrounded by lots of trees.  Only problem:  the cool, windy, rainy weather.  Oh, and forgetting many needed items (like a hatchet and tent poles and rain fly and. . .)  Fortunately this location was also nearby some good friends, who were able to bail us out. . . so to speak.

But our friends were amazed at our camp ice cream.  It’s an amazing recipe and very tasty!

Here’s the recipe (adapted from Backyard Roughing It):
Put 3/4 c whole or flavored milk, 1 c whipping cream, 1/3 c sugar, and ½ t vanilla extract in a quart zip lock bag. Squeeze the air out and tape it shut. Place in another quart zip lock bag and tape it shut. Place inside a gallon zip lock bag, fill with ice and rock salt, seal and tape shut. Place this in yet another gallon zip lock bag and tape it shut. Now wrap this in several layers of newspaper, and secure with tape on all sides so it looks like a ball.

bps-scream-6-08-aThen toss it back and forth for about 15 minutes.

bps-scream-6-08-bUnwrap . . .

bps-scream-6-08-c discard ice . . .

and enjoy! Makes about 3 cups of ice cream.

Real, honest-to-goodness ice cream!

Did I mention that this was Calf #3’s first trip to the woods?  She thoroughly enjoyed being held and didn’t seemed to be bothered a bit by the weather.

And speaking of screaming . . . on the way home from the campground . . .

I know this isn’t exactly “screaming,” but it’s too cute not to post here.  This is the noise the little one makes prior to falling asleep.  Unless, of course, she’s distracted by the camera or someone staring at her, and then she might never get to sleep! 🙂

Hasn’t this been fun today? Don’t ya wanna go over to Debi’s to link up with your baby pics or see everybody else’s?

I loved your post! How fun. I did a lot of camping with my family when I was little, but find I am too chicken to try it yet with our tribe. Some of the older kids got to go with my parents, though. We will definitely try this recipe this summer! That little video was super cute, what a doll! Thanks for stopping by my blog!
